A consistent favourite among whisky enthusiasts, it also received an impressive 96. 5 points from Jim Murray in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2020. PORT ASKAIG 110° PROOF 75cl / 55% Exclusive to the USA, Port Askaig 110° Proof is one of our core offerings: a small-batch bottling created to show a more elegant, approachable style of Islay single malt. Matured in American oak and bottled at 55%, it displays superbly balanced flavours of smoke and sweetness, with the higher strength giving it extraordinary depth. PORT ASKAIG 10TH ANNIVERSARY 70cl / 55. 85% Bottled to commemorate the 10th anniversary of our Port Askaig series of single malts, this 10-year-old expression combines first-fill bourbon hogsheads (25%), refill hogsheads (60%) and sherry butts (15%) selected from a distillery close to the village of Port Askaig. Showing a careful balance of peat, fruit and oak, this whisky particularly shines with a higher ABV of 55. 85% – which also happens to be the geographical latitude of the port itself.

The Port Askaig Core Range of Scotch Whiskies Photo, courtesy Port Askaig/Elixir Distillers Port Askaig is a small village on the northeast coast of the island of Islay in Scotland. Historically it has been the main harbor of Islay and the easiest way of accessing the island. Today, Islay is well-known for the famously smoky and peated whiskies that are produced by such iconic distilleries as Lagavulin, Ardbeg and Laphroaig. Currently there are nine operating distilleries on the island. Port Askaig is also the name of a brand of, Islay sourced, single malt whiskies that are bottled by Elixir Distillers, a creator, blender and bottler of fine spirits. In addition to Port Askaig, Elixir also bottles spirits under the Elements of Islay, Single Malts of Scotland and Black Tot rum brands. They also bottle selections of the legendary Karuizawa whisky. Elixir Distillers is in turn owned by the Speciality Drinks Group. The group also owns Speciality Drinks, a UK spirits distributor, and The Whisky Exchange, the world's largest mail order retailer of whiskies and other spirits.

Here are my some of my favorites whiskeys so far, in no particular order; Russell's Reserve 10, Elijah Craig SB, Eagle Rare, Monkey Shoulder, Bank Note Peated Reserve, and Glenlivet 12. Collection

PORT ASKAIG 25 YEAR OLD 75cl / 45. 8% Exclusive to North America, Port Askaig 25 Year Old was bottled from a batch of casks from an unknown Islay distillery. Time has bestowed this whisky with rich floral notes studded with leather and spice, perfectly complementing its robust peaty character - this is a memorable dram that deserves to be savoured to the last drop. PORT ASKAIG 28 YEAR OLD Our Port Askaig 28 Year Old Islay single malt has been bottled from a batch of casks from an undisclosed Islay distillery. Without detailed information on the provenance of the whisky, we selected the casks based purely on their quality. Time has given this dram wonderful complexity while retaining its peaty, coastal character; the result is a generous and highly individual whisky, perfect for savouring by the fireside. PORT ASKAIG 45 YEAR OLD 70cl / 40. 8% Matured in five refill sherry butts, this unpeated single malt was distilled on Hogmanay in 1968 at Islay's northernmost distillery. We have bottled it at cask strength after the angels took their generous share.

The current Port Askaig range consists of seven expressions, not all of which are available in the US. Bottle sizes will vary between 750 ml, if released in the US, and 700 ml if purchased in the UK. The stated alcoholic strength will also vary depending on whether the packaging was designed for US or UK markets. Port Askaig, Cask Strength, NAS, 55% ABV This expression can be a blend of several Islay distilleries, but is usually based on Caol Ila. It's a blend of seven- to nine-year-old whiskies. The appearance is a light lemon color. On the nose, the whisky is floral, significantly less peaty then the typical Islay expression. On the palate, it offers up sweet, candied notes, along with elements of citrus, peach and apricot, often typical of unpeated Caol Ila. There is a noticeable alcohol burn from the higher proof and a pronounced pepperiness that builds on the finish and lingers. The finish is exceptionally long, sweet, fruity and peppery. The addition of a little water enhances the sweetness and also emphasizes a bit of a saline note.

Happy holidays MB's!! My wife is a nurse and so we celebrated our Christmas earlier today to accommodate her schedule. She gave me a wonderful gift of $100 at a big liquor chain here in Texas. I am still fairly new to whiskey, maybe 18 months or so. I have tended to stay mostly to bourbon but recently have started branching out. My question is what to spend with that gift. I'm leaning towards getting two bottles I've never tasted but seem to come up a lot with Rex and Daniel. The two are Redbreast 12($55) and Laphroaig 10($50). I've just had the big names of Irish whiskey and liked them a lot. I've only had one Islay, Port Askaig 8, which I thought was terrific. I really enjoyed the smoke, salt, and a bunch of other layers I'd never experienced with bourbon so far. Of the two I'm pretty sold with trying Redbreast 12. Do you think Laphroaig 10 is a good Islay to start with in that similar price range? Btw, I've never spent more than $35 on a bottle before so I'm pretty excited to taste something a little nicer.
