We walked from the centre of Brisbane through the City Botanic Gardens and crossed the river on the Goodwill pedestrian bridge. We followed Lower River Terrace until we could access the boardwalk which follows the river beneath the cliffs, in Kangaroo Point Cliffs Park. Then we climbed the first of two sets of stairs up the cliff; there were about 100 steps, and they reached a little rotunda at the top. There were excellent views of the city skyline and the river from this vantage point. We followed River Terrace along to a pleasant cafe high on the cliffs overlooking the city; there are toilet facilities here, and it's a decent spot for a drink or some food. Beside the cafe was a curious statue of a boy scout, celebrating 75 years of scouting in Queensland. Past the cafe here were some curious street art features, including a tall metal sculpture called 'Venus Rising', and a colourful worm-like creation called 'Wormholes'. You'll also find the activity centre for rock climbing here as well.

Kangaroo Point, on the eastern side of the Brisbane River, is one of Brisbane's oldest suburbs, and the site of Queensland's first penal settlement. It's situated just outside the city above the Brisbane River, and is probably best known for the sheer rocky rhyolite cliffs of the east bank of the river. Beneath the cliffs, by the water, is the delightful Kangaroo Point Cliffs Park. Some people go for the thrill of abseiling down the cliffs, or for rock climbing. They are certainly popular outdoor activities at the Kangaroo Point cliffs. However, I would think most visitors would go for the great view of Brisbane's burgeoning skyline and the river below. The views are lovely, and much enjoyed by photographers. There's a number of lookout points on the cliffs, and lots of spots for a picnic in the park below. At night the cliffs light up with tiny lights, creating a lovely riverside vista, especially if you are riding the CityCat; they also allow climbers to use the area at night. It's a pleasant walk indeed in the park, and on the cliffs above, and one you should do if you are visiting Brisbane.
