Parys dome accommodation hotel
Signal is available at Reception and surroundings, but no signal is available at chalets that are located deep in the mountain. In winter, we pack the fireplace with enough wood for your first fire. After that you can buy wood for the fireplace or braai, charcoal and blitz at Reception. Chalet service (dish washing, sweep, beds) is available at an additional cost (R100) and with prior arrangement at Reception. Bedding (2 blankets per bed during winter months), bath towels, soap, toilet paper, hotwater bottles in winter. We supply a paraffin lamp and matches in case of a power failure. Our units do not have TV – enjoy the tranquillity of nature around you! Comfortable shoes for hiking, sun hat, sunblock, water bottle, binoculars for bird watching, torch if you wish to explore the historic gold mine caves. Essentials such as wood, blitz, charcoal, cold drinks, ginger beer, ice cream and sweets are available at the kiosk at Reception. Some local produce is also available such as preserves, jams, nuts and rusks.
Guests are allowed to entertain day visitors in a chalet or lodge, but day visitors must register on arrival at Reception and are limited to two guests per chalet/lodge at a tariff of R100 per person and only from 08:00 to 17:00. Sleep-over guests can hike for free. Hiking routes vary from 3 – 7 kilometres and offer breath-taking views of the hills, cliffs and valleys. Thabela is part of a Nature Conservancy and pets are not allowed on the farm for the protection of the small game and birdlife. Please check in at 14h00, unless otherwise arranged. Please check out before 11h00. Guests can still enjoy hiking on the farm until 17h00 after keys has been returned. Although a regular sedan vehicle can travel on the mountain road, we suggest that, if possible, you can come with a vehicle with higher ground clearance. No motorcycles, quad bikes and similar vehicles are allowed. No public transport or taxis are allowed in the mountains. Thabela's Tea Garden and Venue are currently under construction.
